Have you ever noticed how some people can wake up and inhale sausages, eggs and bacon for breakfast and feel great, whilst a meal like that would make others feel tired and sleepy? Or when you eat that really healthy salad sandwich for lunch, but an hour later you are tired, sleepy and hungry? The fact is that everyone is different, so understanding and eating according to your metabolic type can have a massive effect on your energy levels and overall health.

Metabolic Types (MT). What are they? MT is based on a theory that people are either oxidative dominant or autonomic dominant which means that some people feel better on higher protein diets and others on higher carbs. Others need an even mix. Your individual MT greatly impacts how the body digests different foods.

How will MT affect you: Improved energy levels, effective weight loss, reduced bloating and improved sleeping patterns are just some of the results recorded after one month of eating right for your type. Another plus is that it can be adapted to fit in with other diets, or if you are not a “dieter” you can simply shift your protein and carbohydrate ratios to match your personal MT.

Take this great test to see what your MT type is. Some of the questions will challenge you and really make you think about how different foods make you feel.

Oh yea i can’t eat anything in morning, my stomack simply can take it, so i only drink protein shake in morning. Thats my healthy meal

  • Amelia Burton

    Thats quite common Montoya,
However there are many metabolic benefits of eating a balanced breakfast not to mention the opportunity to eat some fruit. A protein shake is better than nothing, and so long as you are getting your daily dose of 3 pieces of fruit. Thats ok. I take it you are a protein type in the metabolic quiz??? Thanks for your great comments!

Hehe I am a protein type, In the morning i only can eat a orange and protein shake.

Interesting test, I am a mixed type. It at least gets me to think a little bit more about my overall state in relationship to what I have eaten.

    Cheers, Joe

I am a mixed type, leaning towards protein. This explains why i crach mid morning when I just have cereal/fruit for breakfast. I am going to try adding a bit of protein (eggs?) in the morning to see if it helps

    Hi Joe,

The questions really get you thinking don’t they! I suggest reading the qu’s and then observing your bodies reaction to food for a week. It certainly gets you thinking doesn’t it!
    Good luck!

That is a great advise Amelia, but the problem with me I am really lazy in terms of eating fruits and vegetable but still try those thing because I know it will benefit me.

    Hi Online fitness health

if you feel lazy when it comes to fruit and vegetables, may I suggest you take a supplement such as juice plus. Juice plus is one of the most highly researched multivitamins in the world. I’ve been on it for 7 years, and I NEVER get sick :)

  • John O

Hey useful Information. It is much useful Later you Think about it. Increasingly supportive. Aloha.

  • amy tomsett

i take juice plus and am very happy with it. I am thinking about eating for my metabolic type. Will the combination of different vegetables and fruits in juice plus taken daily affect the metabolic typing diet where you shouldn’t eat certain carbohydrates on with other certain foods.

Hi Joe, I did the metabolic test and I am profile 2.
I am a little confused as I have been told that because I am blood type A that I should eat almost like a vegetarian, no red meat etc, whereas profile 2 allows me to have meat etc. Can you please help? Thank you, Gail

  • Chandelle

    Hi Amelia

Just the did the test and got the type 2 (Protein). No surprises there. All I seem to crave is meat- mainly poultry and carbohydrates (rice). I never seem to crave fruit or vegetables and I find it difficult to implement then in my diet as much as I try.

Following the protein diet- do you think that 50% is excessive? I know there are other alternatives for protein other than meat (legumes, nuts, seeds & seafood {allergic}) but surely a diet of 50% protein would mean a significant amount of animal products that would be considered unhealthy raising risk of bowel cancers & the like??

Hi Amelia just read Chandelle comment re test.
I would like to do this test where on your site is it?

I don’t think I can loose weight…I don’t have the self control to stop when I am full. What advice do you have?

  • Malia

I don’t eat breakfast. It just makes me feel heavy all day! I only make a juice consistng of carrot/spinach/beet/cucumber/kale and yellow bell peppers

Hi Amelia, I’ve just hooked into your blog – really interesting info! Thanks! I’m not surprised to have come out with a profile 2, protein type…I’ve always felt better when proteins are high in my diet. Just a question though – generally I try and avoid sugary foods, but I eat A LOT of fruit and vegetables – mainly apples and carrots. I know they are quite high in sugar, and so I’m trying to cut right down, but I do find them good to snack on when studying or as a dessert. What is your position on natural sugars found in fruit and vegetables? How concerned should I be to cut down on my intake of these? Thanks!

  • Ryan Vox

Curious… according to this, I should be eating more carbs. This may explain all the issues I have had since moving to a high protein diet the last 3 weeks!

    Tahnks Amelia!

  • Linda

Very interesting. I did the test and ended up as a Protein type, which i wouldn’t have guessed cause I thought I preferred carbs. I do feel quite tired when I eat a lot of carbs such as pasta or rice though. Thanks for the enlightening article.
